災害ボランティアで白鴎大学キャンパスへ Joined the volunteer work on Hakuoh university campus damaged by the heavy rain

 このブログを書いて気が付いたらもう夜中の零時を回って9月21日月曜日になっていました。
 昨日の日曜日は先の豪雨で水没した小山の白鴎大学に災害ボランティアとして夫について参加してきました。二年前までの7年間夫が勤務していた関係で惨事を知って駆けつけました。本当に水没した様子をまずビデオで見せられて唖然としました。特に、大切な蔵書を保管していた図書館の地下室が完全にやられたことと、食堂が全部やられていたこと。災害直後の作業がどれだけ大変だったことか。今日も大勢の業者と学生ボランティアが溢れていました。今日は体育館の体操用床マットの整備と窓ふき、食堂の壁拭き、駐輪場の清掃などが作業内容でした。月曜日にもう一日ボランティアを募って清掃作業をやり25日からの二学期に間に合わせる由。ここに至るまでの大変な作業に頭が下がる思いでした。予定より1時間遅く作業が打ち切られ、帰路、大学横の思い川の土手を視察。今回の水害は直接この川の影響は受けていなかったようですが、思い川自体、堤防もあと２０ｃｍで溢れるところまで水位があがっていたそうです。
It's already after 0 o'clock on September 21  when I finished writing this blog. 
My husband and I went to Oyama to join the volunteer work on the campus of Hakuoh university which was awfully damaged by the recent heavy rain. My husband used to teach on this campus for seven years and that's why we decided to join them upon knowing their volunteer activity.
It took us almost two hours to reach there and we found we were one hour later to start. But staff welcomed us and showed us first the video of the damaged campus right after the disaster. Almost all the premise was flooded. The most serious one is the library of which the basement was completely flooded. All the books, precious documents were all damaged. It was awful. The cafeteria was all destructed.  The recovery work must have been crucial and it must have been more than we could imagine. Today we devoted ourselves to clean the windows and doors around the school buildings and it took more time than expected. we were released after five o'clock and it was after seven we drove back home safely.
